Preparing for Establishment
Every first week of the New Year, we have a week of prayer at Brooklyn Tabernacle. Each night of the week, there is a prayer meeting at the church, where we call on God for His leading and direction in our lives for the New Year. This past week, we did just that. To say that God works in a mighty way when His people call on Him would be an understatement. I have come to understand, there is nothing more that God cherishes than when His people surrender to Him with open arms and declare, “I need you Lord. I can’t do this. Please come and lead my life.” Not only does this please Jesus, but it brings down power: the Power of the Holy Spirit to come, heal, and mold you like Christ. Over the course of the week, God kept speaking one word to me through every meeting: Preparation. God is in the business of preparing His people for HIS work. God is NOT in the business of preparing His people for OUR work. Through several conversations with a pastor at Brooklyn Tabernacle this week, God spoke this to me, “The end of yourself, is the beginning of God.” Think about that. Have we really come to an end of our self for God to get a hold of our life? Here it is plain and simple: God wants to use us, but only when there is none of us left. He WILL break and humble us to whatever degree that takes for each individual, but then He WILL restore and fill us with the Holy Spirit like never before. James 5:8 says, “You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Some of us, including myself, need to become patient and allow God to establish our hearts. This is what the Journey of Preparation is all about: Allowing God to establish us in any way He chooses. The sooner we accept this, the sooner God can use us.

New Year's Love
There is nothing more refreshing than a new year. A new year allows you to reflect on the past year. Over the past couple of weeks I have done much reflection. Most of my reflection has been praise, praise to Jesus for what He has done in my life this past year! Have you ever been going through life, praying for God’s will, thinking you are seeking God’s will, and out of know where God interjects and crumbles “His will” to pieces? In a nutshell, that has been my year. In the midst of this, you think the world is falling down on you. But soon you realize it’s not the world, but your immaturity. There is nothing worse than being in your own will. It will attack you and eat at your insides until you can’t live any more. It truly suffocates you. On the other hand, there is nothing more freeing and lively than to be in the center of God’s will! God has a unique way in bringing us to His will. You soon realize that God never brings you into His will, but you are graced and loved into His will. A new year is a new beginning. New beginnings allow you to start afresh, to dream big, and to act on your dreams. With this new beginning, my dream is to know and understand God’s love. 1 John 4:8 says, “…God is love.” Therefore to understand God’s love is in essence to understand the very nature of God. Then and only then can I act out my dream found in 1 John 4:7, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.”
